Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher focusses on the life and death of Hannah Baker. When Clay Jensen returns home one evening, he finds a mysterious package lying in his porch. Without any clue, he takes the package inside and what he finds inside hardens his heart forever.

The story mainly revolves around the various incidents which forced Hannah to commit suicide. The package delivered to Clay contains seven cassette tapes which Hannah has recorded herself. It also had a map with marked locations to places, which she wanted Clay to visit while listening to the tapes. These cassettes reveal the thirteen reasons, which forced Hannah to end her life.

Hannah, a typical high school student faces all the kinds of problems that a normal teenager of her age would go through. But the main theme of the book is how every small criticism can collect and pressure the mind.

Though, Clay doesn’t do anything that would have hurt Hannah, he was indirectly involved in the 13 reasons Hannah states.

2. IF I STAY by Gayle Forman
